Remember the time when I used to curse the Japanese language with it's impossibly long sentences and many many determinants?
I failed to remember at that time that not only the German language can be very guilty of this phenomenon too, but French can obviously be as well. And now I'm sitting here, trying to translate this mess of a text into proper Japanese... RRRAAAAAHHH, curse upon thou Le Clézio!
On the other hand, I have to admit that his writing style is so beautiful it makes you cry. Claire was the one I think who mentioned how sad it was to have to go to Japan first in order to realize how beautiful the French language can be, and while I have more or less always been aware of that, I still wholeheartedly agreed with that comment.

And by the way, it's a good thing that I wasted my time writing this completely gratuitous ranting entry, because I haven't noticed before googling his wikipedia entry that he won the Nobel Prize in Literature this year.Oo; I guess I should really watch/read more news once again, having no more excuses with a new internet connection in my room and such... And it seems like I'm even getting a new tv very soon, or at least Hatsuhara-san, the one in charge of us, already contacted Séverine and me twice about her currently ordering new tvs for both of us, YAY!

XD~ also bis zur Hälfte des Satzes bin ich gekommen, danach fehlten mir zuviele Vokabeln um ihn noch zu verstehen *grade nicht ihr frz.-Wörterbuch suchen will*

Aber ja... es ist schon ein Kreuz mit diesen bandwurmsätzen. Ich muss noch diese verdammte 10seitige Übersetzung machen...

Na bei dem Schachtelsatz ist das auch nicht verwunderlich, und dann will ich nicht wissen wieviel Arbeit das für die Japanerinnen bedeutet.^^;

10 Seiten? *schluck* Ich nehme aber an vom Japanischen ins Deutsche, oder? Und wieviel Zeit hast du dafür? Viel Erfolg auf jeden Fall!

You know, this reminds me. A few weeks back there was a little funny story in the newspaper, about a German woman called Beate who wanted to change her name to Béatrix, because she was living in France and was constantly laughed at for her name, because béat(e?) apparently means whimsical/silly in French.

... is that true? Because I always thought that in Latin, "Beate" it meant "the lucky/happy one", and usually French sticks pretty close to its Latin roots, right?
I mean, it's my name too, after all, but my French friends on Okinawa never seemed to think it a particularly funny name.

Don't worry about that, it is crazy-long and complicated after all!:-\ I suddenly am in deep admiration for the Japanese students who have to understand this as well, although most of them don't exactly leave me in awe for their Mad French Speaking Skillz in class.

Hmmm, now that's good one. I'd say the meaning of "béat(e)" in French is rather about holiness than happiness, but whimsical/silly...? There's another meaning/expression about silliness ghosting in the back of my mind right now, but I can't quite pinpoint whether it's exactly "béat" or a very similar sounding word, I'd have to ask my french-speaking friends about that... I'll tell you as soon as I have an answer.:)

bis hierher bin ich ca. gekommen, bevor mir die Vokabeln ausgegangen sind. schon traurig, nach 5 (oder waren's 6?) jahren Französischunterricht <.

Mach dir nichts draus, es ist wirklich nicht einfach. Obwohl ich mich so langsam frage, ob ich nicht auch versuchen sollte das ins Deutsche oder Englische zu übersetzen, bisher scheint es von den Nicht-Francophonen niemand verstanden zu haben.^^;

*hust* Okay, ein halbherziger Versuch:
"Früher erzählte ihm seine Mutter lange Geschichten in denen Engel mit großen Flügeln aus Licht vorkamen, die über der Stadt schwebten und herabkamen um denjenigen zu helfen die ihrer bedurften, und sie sagte, dass man dann wusste wenn der Engel zugegen war, wenn man in seinem Nacken einen Windzug spürte, flüchtig und leicht wie ein Hauch der einen zum Frösteln bringt."

Ich bin mir noch nicht ganz sicher, ich habe bisher nur die ersten zwei Seiten gelesen.;>//> Aber der Stil ist wirklich traumhaft schön, auch wenn er leider extremst verschachtelt ist!

Öhm, 9 Uhr 24 abends, mit der Winterzeit bei euch dürften es jetzt acht Stunden Unterschied sein. (Und leider Zeit für mich offline zu gehen, ich muss noch unbedingt mein eines Buch (für mein Magisterthema) weiterlesen. *seufz*)

Hey, long time no see, how are you?:D

Thanks a lot for your offer, but I have no problems understanding the meaning.:) It's just that the structure of the sentence is really complicated and therefor difficult for me to render in Japanese, thus my ranting.

Honestly? I'm not sure. In my classes in Paris, we usually had to render translations sentence by sentence, as close as possible to the original text and writing style. But here in those classes, they don't seem to care a lot about good style or anything as long as the meaning is rendered well. But in this particular case, I'm not sure cutting the sentence would be of a lot of help anyway as I have mostly problems to render the many determinants without making the translation too artificial-looking or even incomprehensible. *sigh*

Yay! Beim zweiten Mal lesen hab ich den Satz verstanden. Es ist also noch nicht zu spät meine Französischkenntnisse aufzufrischen, wie's aussieht. *gg* Jetzt muss ich nur noch die Zeit dafür finden. *seufz* Französisch ist schon eine tolle Sprache. Wär wirklich schade, wenn die ganzen Jahre Quälerei in der Schule umsonst gewesen wären.

Hey, und damit wärst du die erste Nicht-Französischsprachlerin die ihn verstanden zu haben scheint, herzlichen Glückwunsch!:D
Ich verstehe was du meinst, mir tut es auch in der Seele weh zu sehen, wie ich meine Italischkenntnisse höchstens noch ein wenig passiv benutzen kann, während ich selbst einen einfachen lateinischen Text praktisch überhaupt nicht mehr auseinanderpflückeln kann. Gut, wenigstens Latein brauche ich derzeit wirklich nicht, aber Französisch kann man immer gebrauchen, das wäre wirklich schade drum! Du musst mich dann eben mal besuchen, wenn ich wieder in Paris sein werde.;)

Ja, Latein gab es da auch mal in meinem Gehirn, aber das ist komplett wieder flöten gegangen. Ich bin froh wenn ich heutzutage noch das eine oder andere lateinische Sprichwort entziffern kann. -_-

Das wird sich hoffentlich einrichten lassen. ;)

Aber ich weiß genau wie du dich fühlst! Ich erinnere mich immer noch mit Schrecken an diesen einen Brief von meinem Professor, den ich für ihn ins Englische übersetzen musste, in dem er versuchte, die größtmöglichste Anzahl von Informationen in die kleinstmöglichste Anzahl von Worten zu stecken, was das Ganze äußerst unangenehm zu übersetzen machte. ^^"
